In a city where humans go through their clueless existence is a world filled with all types of preternatural entities, some of them are up to no good. For those who step over the line and need eradication there is an answer: The Team! The Team is a group of crossbreed warriors, each with their own special talents; they’re willing and able to keep their city safe at all costs. J.C. is the lone female member of the team whose skills with weapons are just as good as her other concealed abilities. J.C.’s relationship with her teammate Nick becomes sticky when their past suddenly spills over into their present and affects their ability to work side by side. Hidden between them are secrets that can lead to them both being killed.

Once I got past the welcome sign that seemed to beckon anything with a male appendage to J.C., I found myself enjoying the heroine. Her killer appeal, personality and looks with the skills to match, as well as the “I’m one of the guys attitude” made her worthy of hero worship in my book. With enough gratuitous sex to scandalize the puritan in most, this story provided me with a sense of sexual freedom. Along with the gritty and raw ability to do what you want with your body whenever and wherever, you have to love it! Nick and the rest of The Team added their own special touches to this story, but this was definitely J.C.’s show. One aspect I thought really took this book over the top was the relationship the heroine had with her mom; I found myself on the floor laughing at J.C.’s mother’s continued attempts to set her up with man after totally wrong man. The only ding I gave this story is that I would have loved to see a few more action scenes that highlighted J.C.’s skills and showed the value she brought to the team. Lisa Andel’s latest is a hot one, so be prepared to experience a fiendish world where some of the beasts, goblins and other paranormal beings are lusty creatures, and the men and woman tasked with keeping you safe aren’t quite what you expect them to be.
