B*E*A*S*T of Burden

Marlie Silver has more or less been sequestered from everyone, except her job and friend Kevin, after losing her husband, Matthew. When Kevin brings two men into her home, and one is bleeding badly, one sound of the injured man’s tone immediately triggers a response in Marlie’s mind. It is the voice of her dead husband, Matthew.

Rogan Wolfe has lost any memory of his previous life after B*E*A*S*T abducted him and turned his life into something much different from what he was accustomed. All memory of his life and his wife has been erased, for the exception of one little memory of a certain woman. He finds a way to escape the lab, but not before scanning their computers and learning a bit about the life of Matthew Silver before his memory was taken. Now that he has found his way back home, he explains the truth to Marlie, who finds it hard to believe since she attended his funeral. His friend, Wade McAllister, tries to explain how the agency stole their lives and memories. Kevin believes it all garbage and the whole fake death ridiculous. Marlie is still stunned by the new events. Kevin doesn’t want Marlie left alone with Rogan/Matthew or Wade, but she feels she will be safe and urges Kevin to leave. Rogan must prove to Marlie that B*E*A*S*T is real and the transformation is the only way but once she sees it, she wonders if they can get back what they lost.

Once again, Rebecca Goings has created another great read in the B*E*A*S*T series. I was on the edge of my seat with this captivating read. The ordeal with Rogan/Matthew, and his memory loss trying to regain everything to be with the woman he loves, was fantastic. I could feel his anticipation and anxiety. When she learns that Rogan/Matthew is really alive, the shock on Marlie’s face really leaped from the pages. Again the villains are back to create more chaos, especially to those who escape the lab. The secondary characters lend some great seasoning to the story, counterbalancing it magnificently. Ms. Goings spins a fabulous plot in this roller-coaster tale that engages the reader. The B*E*A*S*T of Burden is a spine-tingling story and one recommended read.
