Clutch Me if You Can
Sarah Lyons cannot afford to lose her job, even if it means wearing a hooker costume with four-inch high heels to a birthday party to please her boss. As a minister’s daughter, and someone who teaches Sunday school, she feels as if she has sold out her values to keep this job. Being single at twenty-six, thoughts of moving back home are like a slap in the face. She needs to keep this job. Driving a standard in four-inch heels isn’t easy and she accidentally plows into a motorcycle. One look at the handsome motorcycle owner and she is smitten. Unfortunately stud muffin gets one look at her outfit and doesn’t stick around for long. Jake Reynolds can’t believe a hooker rear-ended him. He wonders if she even looked at a mirror before venturing outside. She looks absolutely ridiculous, yet there is something about her that makes her appear genuinely embarrassed. When they have the occasion to meet again, Sarah considers mentioning she was the one in the hooker costume, and then decides against it, keeping it a secret. After Jake discovers it was Sarah who hit his bike, she wonders if it will lead to new beginnings in her life.
I liked the premise of a minister’s daughter who desires to get past the labeling she has worn like a mantle since youth. She will win readers over as she tries to be independent and stand on her own two feet. Sarah and Jake both have values they try to live by while trying to stay grounded in their beliefs, and neither wishes to be hurt in the process. Rochelle Rae Hensler crafts a delightful tale in Clutch Me if You Can that I believe many can relate to. The romance is heartening and the reader cannot help but feel caught up in the joy that transpires between the couple. I enjoyed the dialogue and interaction between Sarah and Jake. The additional characters, along with a storyline that keeps moving at an easy pace, makes this one recommended read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
