Overlord’s Vessel

Overlord’s Vessel by Bronwyn Green is a magical story. When Elizabeth first sees Micah, she feels pulled to him. Apparently, he feels the pull as well, because he arrives at her father’s cottage to claim her for his own.

Micah Bleddyn is the Overlord of all of Maelgwn, and, with the Beltane ritual approaching, he needs a virgin. At twenty, Elizabeth is a virgin. Micah claims her and removes her from her father’s home.

The emotions between the couple, as well as the physical aspects of their relationship, are passionate. But Micah tells Elizabeth that love has no place in an Overlord’s life, so she knows he is just doing his duty, what his position demands of him. The worst part of their relationship is the knowledge that Elizabeth has regarding any children who come from their passion. If she produces a girl child, it will be taken from her by custom to be raised elsewhere. Or she could leave with it and Micah could find her a suitable husband, but that would mean leaving Micah. He tells her that a girl would stay on to be raised with her brothers, but can Elizabeth count on that?

Sacrifice, duty and selflessness are themes in this book. Overlord’s Vessel by Bronwyn Green shows that fantasy can be filled with magic—of every kind. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I think others will, too. It was easy to be swept into Micah and Elizabeth’s world. The imagery is vivid and the action is steeped with romance, and this story is one that held my attention from the first page until the last. Well done!
