First kiss age eight, first boy friend age ten, turn vampire age sixteen. Well, in Zoey Redbird’s case, fledging vampire. A day after Zoey is marked she arrives at the House of Night where she has to take classes and train to become an adult vampire, if she lives through the Change. Zoey is no ordinary fledging; she has been hand picked by the Goddess Nyx. Soon after, Zoey realizes she has special powers, but along with these powers comes strange unwanted side affects. Zoey is not the only fledging with special powers. The leader of the Dark Daughters isn’t so nice to Zoey when she first arrives and isn’t using her powers correctly. In order to fit in and find out where she really belongs she has to prove to herself that she isn’t the familiar stranger she has become.

I was fascinated from page one! For being the Casts’ first young adult book they did great! Marked is mysterious, fun to read, and amazing. If there was one thing I would change about this book would be the way Zoey’s parents treated her. This would probably be one of the times were a kid needed their parents the most. This book made me see a whole new take on vampires. Also, this book’s vampire details are very new and modern somewhat you would expect a vampire to do, but thoroughly interesting.
