Death of a Blogger

Death of a Blogger is one of the wittiest, right-on-target funny suspense mysteries I’ve read in a long time. With almost everyone on the blogosphere, this is a novel that touches the pulse of the e-book world. Blogger Wendy Wallace is ruthless. She spills the beans and she doesn’t care whether or not people in her small hometown of Stranded, Ohio, like it or not. She annoys someone enough that she’s murdered, a piece of her computer the murder weapon. Effie Dodd is no detective but she rushes in when her best friend Molly becomes the most likely suspect in Wendy’s murder. Things take sometimes hilarious twists and turns once Effie begins sleuthing.

Danae M. West has written a laugh-out-loud funny account of cyberspace, small town and the lengths people will go to in order to make themselves heard or to silence others. Effie Dodd is a character that stole my heart right from the beginning of this story. Effie’s determination to help her friend is a quality we would all love to see in our own friends, and ourselves. She is recognizable and loveable, and refreshingly honest. This story is filled with characters like that. The doctor, Garland Huntsberg, who lives just outside the city limits and likes it that way because it discourages people from bothering him in the middle of the night is another of Ms. West’s charming characters. All in all, this story captivated me from the first page and held me until the very last word. I can only hope that Effie Dodd is a character whose exploits will continue in another volume. She is wonderfully unforgettable.
