Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed is part of the Legacy of the Celtic Brooch series. I have read every book in this series and have found them all to be outstanding stories. Something Borrowed continues this winning streak. In my opinion it is one of the best in this series. It is a contemporary romance that caught my heart in the first paragraph. Jody is recently divorced and already her family has taken to calling her “Poor Jody.” When her cousin’s daughter’s wedding looms she envisions another affair where she will be alone and lonely. On impulse she asks if she can bring someone to the wedding with her. Then she goes outside and asks her handsome neighbor, Cliff, if he’ll escort her to the wedding. The pair works out an arrangement that suits them both. As the event comes closer, they are drawn together.

Kathleen O’Connor’s use of the Celtic brooch in this story is ingenious. She reiterates parts of the earlier stories without losing any of the momentum of this new story. I thought her twist on the reason for the brooch in the lives of Jody and Cliff was intriguing. These two characters are older but both are at points in their lives where starting over is a main priority. It was super to see Jody bloom beneath Cliff’s interest. The dialogue is realistic and the situations are ordinary without being boring. I loved this story. Ms. O’Connor has a new fan and I will be looking for anything new from this talented author. Well done!
