Second Wind

Cathy Fitzgerald has spent the summer in Dallas for a law school internship, but she is determined to meet some real cowboys before she has to leave tomorrow and go home to Boston. She and a friend attend a local rodeo where she meets the cowboy of her dreams, and now her whole world centers on this man. They spend the weekend together, but Cathy returns to Boston. She hears nothing from her cowboy until several months later when he suddenly calls her. A week later he is sitting on her porch when she returns from school begging her to marry him and move her life with him to Dallas. She’s not sure how she feels about being a rancher’s wife but knows that she loves him, so she follows her heart and her man to Dallas. Cathy knows that being married changes things for people, but she never expected the distance to come between her and her cowboy. What happened to the loving man who came to Boston and begged her to marry him? What happened to the man who, when they met, could not kiss or touch her enough? She wants him back and if leaving him will bring the man back then that’s what she will do. Will the temporary separation bring her cowboy back to her or will it run him off permanently?

From the minute that Rafe Walker made eye contact with Cathy, he felt like he had been hit by a two by four. The woman was beautiful, and he could feel the connection. Luckily, Cathy felt the bond also because they spent the weekend locked in a hotel room together before she returns to Boston. Rafe tried to let her go because they were so different. He didn’t feel he was good enough for her so he didn’t return her phone calls when she called him. After several months he missed her so badly that he gave into the temptation and called her, but he still ached to see and taste her so he went to Boston planning to bring her home to Dallas. The separation is not something that he ever expected to go through, and he is not sure how to handle the situation. He knows that Cathy is trying to tell him something; will he figure this out on his own or will his marriage be over?

I loved the emotion and the passion in this story; it’s there from the moment that the two meet and just builds as the story progresses. Cathy and Rafe show that two people can meet, fall in love, marry and still have problems that need to be solved. Their problems came over time as the marriage grew and their relationship changed. The story was very hot at the beginning when they met, but overall it’s something that a woman can read and know that there will be storms in a marriage and with help they can be overcome and learned from.
