The Ride of Her Life
Sarah Austin has always been “sensible Sarah” but after a diagnosis from her doctor that changes her life she decides it’s time to live a little. Sarah was always picked on by kids and then Dean Bastian came to her rescue. Dean is back in town to attend his father’s funeral, and he still looks the same as he did when they were in school: long hair, tight t-shirts, faded jeans and riding the Harley. Sarah decides that she needs one more rescuing from Dean. She has heard that he is leaving to go to Los Angeles, and she wants to go with him. Sarah knows that riding on the back of a Harley behind her old high school crush, stopping to meet new people and seeing things that she has never seen before and making memories before the time that will come when she can’t do those things any more is just the rescue she needs from him. Dean doesn’t want to take her but when she threatens to hitch-hake he agrees to the road trip. Will he also agree when she decides that she wants to get to know him very intimately before the trip is over?
Dean Bastian was always the bad boy in the neighborhood, and he liked that image when he was younger, but he changed when he left home. He graduated high school left town, went to college and graduated with honors and was now a full time teenage counselor. Now that he’s back in town for his father’s funeral, he is amazed at how people think that he is still the same guy now that he was back then. People think that he is a member of the road crew for Aerosmith, and he doesn’t bother to correct them because he will be leaving and going back to his job soon. When he agrees to take Sarah on the trip he knows that he will be fighting an over whelming attraction to her. However, what happens when he falls in love with her and realizes that he has to tell her about his real job? Will Sahara still love him then or is she only attracted to the bad guy?
The secrets in this story drew me into it and held my attention until the very end. The diagnosis that Sarah doesn’t want to deal with is something that no one would want to deal with. If I were in her shoes I would want to do the same thing that she is doing; making memories to look back on. I love the fact that Dean became a teenage counselor. The book states that he uses things that happened to him to help him to help the kids that he is working with. Can Dean and Sarah deal with the truth when they learn the total truth about each other? Make sure you read The Ride of Her Life to find out.
