Marked by Moonlight

I know you are probably thinking, “oh no, not another new werewolf series” but if you love werewolf tales you won’t want to miss this one! Marked by Moonlight by Sharie Kohler is the first book of her new The Moon Chasers Series. The series is off to an excellent start with this entry into the werewolf book club.

Claire Morgan is an unassuming, rather meek, high school English teacher, not at all the type of person to find herself bitten by a werewolf. Actually Claire doesn’t believe she was bitten by a werewolf; it was just a dog. Gideon March must be crazy, there is no such thing as a werewolf. Gideon not only claims she was bitten by a werewolf, but that if she doesn’t help him find the alpha wolf to the boy who bit her, he will have to kill her. Gideon is a lycan hunter and his job and mission in life is to kill all werewolves. Why should Claire be any different? If Gideon doesn’t kill her before the next full moon, she will kill someone else and it will be his fault. It really doesn’t matter that they are extremely attracted to one another; it’s just the werewolf gene in Claire, right? Will Gideon and Claire be able to stop her from turning at the next full moon or will Gideon be forced to kill her? If Gideon can’t kill Claire will he be her first victim?

I loved this story; it is creative, exciting, and a darn good read! I liked Claire’s character, especially when she started changing from the werewolf attack and gained more confidence in herself and a backbone. I did want to slap her when she kept denying the changes in her were a sign that Gideon was telling the truth. Come on Claire, what do you think all the changes are? Gideon is a marvelous tortured character still battling guilt that his parents were killed by werewolves while he survived and seeking absolution by killing every werewolf he encounters. Something about Claire is different, why didn’t he kill her the night she was bitten? This werewolf tale is different in that the main characters are trying to prevent Claire from becoming a werewolf. In this tale most of the werewolves are mindless beasts that kill without compunction. Gideon is faced with a real dilemma too, if he is able to save Claire what does that say about all the people he killed before without giving them a chance? Could everything Gideon has been taught about the bitten be wrong? Could his parents have been saved? I can’t wait to see what Ms. Kohler comes up with next. There are a number of good secondary characters in this book that would make good stories; I wonder who will be in the sequel? I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great paranormal romance and werewolf tales; you won’t be disappointed.
