Waking Up Dead

Deb Stein socialite party girl extraordinaire and vampire Aaron Lowell are an accident waiting to happen and it does. Aaron and Deb meet, have fantastic sex and get a little carried away. Aaron’s control wasn’t what it should have been when it came to Deb, and he drained too much. Deb being the wild child she is bit him back, thus taking his blood and starting the process to turn her into a vampire. Aaron’s mentor, Daniel, sends him out of town to escape Deb’s wrath, and Daniel is left to explain to Deb what happens next. Daniel’s explanation leaves a lot to be desired, but Deb is a lot spunkier than they gave her credit for being. So how does a party girl make money, find housing, find a blood source and live as the undead? She changes her name to Dovey Devine and becomes a striper of course!

I loved the humor in this version of a vampire story! Waking Up Dead by Lizzie T. Leaf is a wonderful, funny, vampire tale of overcoming obstacles and making the best with what fate gives you. My only complaint is that there isn’t more to the story. I hope there is a sequel in the works. Ms. Leaf’s casts of characters are fun, and I want to know what happens to the many secondary characters. I’d like to know more about what happens in the future with Dovey and Aaron too.
