Dedra Wolfe is turning thirty and needs something incredibly special to take her mind off of this milestone birthday. Her best friend Ruby knows just the thing for her: an erotic photo shoot with mysterious photographer Marcellus Oakes. Marcellus is as sexy as sin, has a body to die for and is a fabulous photographer. Oh, yes, and he’s also an eighteen hundred year old vampire.

Marcellus knows the photo shoot Ruby purchased for Dedra is much more than a birthday gift. Ruby is playing matchmaker again, but Marcellus has sworn off relationships and is content to live his life in his own quiet way.

When Dedra and Marcellus meet, all bets are off. Both are immediately and thoroughly attracted to each other. They insist they simply want no-strings sex, but the more time they spend together, the more they wonder if they’ll be able to say goodbye when Dedra’s vacation ends.

I was absolutely enthralled by Heart’s Blood: The Dark Room. The story progressed seamlessly, and I was carried away by these two characters who’d been hurt by past experiences and were determined not to repeat past mistakes, yet were absolutely magnetized and aroused by the other. Their intimacy was combustible, eating up the pages with tension and ecstasy. The ending, while logical, was delightfully clever. I can’t wait to see where Kate Hill takes these characters in the future!
