This is the third book in the Sophie Green mystery series. However, I don’t believe it is necessary to read these books in order. The story stands alone and it is not hard to jump right into the action an figure out what’s going on. Sophie Green is a spy, one who isn’t always completely spy-like. She’s often inept, but generally gets the job done. In this mystery, she is sent to New York to do one thing but ends up doing something completely unexpected. Sophie goes back to school. With her handsome man, Luke, heating things up between them, the last thing Sophie feels like is a teenager. Will she solve the mystery and satisfy the man, all while keeping her spy image intact?

A is for Apple by Kate Johnson is laugh-out-loud funny. I howled at certain moments in this book. The author’s sense of timing and wacky sense of humor makes beginning each chapter like watching a comedy routine. Sophie may be bumbling but she is smart, too. I like that feature about her. Her boyfriend is realistic and the ins and outs of their relationship makes for very interesting reading. I wondered, as Sophie and Luke grew closer, whether or not she’d take the whole thing between them to the next level. I won’t give anything away here. Let’s just say A is for Apple is a wildly entertaining spy story. I can’t wait to read the next novel by Kate Johnson. She’s on my auto-buy list!
