Torrid Tarot - Golden Seduction

Laila Brooks loves her job for Rarities Incorporated. She uses her intelligence and skills to find patterns to help in the search for missing artifacts. She also is a computer genius. She rarely finds time to meet men, and when she does, they are often intimidated by her intelligence. Her best friend Sonya Cyrus sends her a beautiful tarot card deck as a birthday present. As soon as Laila opens it, she is drawn to the picture of the man on the King of Cups card—he is gorgeous. She briefly leaves the deck in her living room while on the phone thanking her friend Sonya for her present and discussing her lack of a love life. When she comes back, the man she admired on the card is in the flesh in her living room. Aleneic, King of Cups, has been trapped in the tarot deck for thousands of years. Every seven hundred and ninety-eight years he is given a chance to find the Golden Tarot that will win him his freedom. After either seven, nine, or eight days, back he goes in the card. He had nearly given up hope that he could ever succeed in winning his freedom, but Laila gives him new hope.

I found this story both unique and interesting. The passion and feelings between Aleneic and Laila were both strong and believable. I liked that their relationship built at a believable pace. Aleneic has a wonderful heart that truly cares for others, and that shows in his interactions with Laila. Laila’s intelligence and sweetness make a great combination and work well when paired with Aleneic’s strength of character; they make a great couple. Laila’s sentient computer Thane makes a creative and interesting secondary character, and I look forward to seeing him in a future book. The plot twist at the end seemed a little fantastical to me, but I am hoping that is because I am unfamiliar with the Torrid Tarot series. Otherwise, I found Golden Seduction to be a lovely story.
