Beneath a Yankee Sky

Beneath a Yankee Sky by J.M. Snyder is a homoerotic paranormal story set in the time of the Civil War.

Brance feels the bite in the air and he knows that winter will be here soon and he needs to find a safe place for himself and his mate Caleb. They have been through a lot, from first meeting as shifters, realizing that they were on opposite sides of the war, to choosing each other as mates and leaving their past behind to start a new life. Brance had been a loner even since he learned not to trust others from his strict and abusive upbringing from his father. Now he has Caleb to love and he won’t let anything or anyone take his well deserved happiness away.

Caleb loves everything about Brance and wants to spend the rest of his life caring for and loving Brance. The love they share is both heartwarming and primeval as the link they share as shape shifters. Caleb is out in shifter form when he comes across a camp with men. Brance knows that men this far into the woods can only spell danger. He approaches the camp and his worst fears come to light when the men hear him. Will Brance and Caleb find a way to escape the hunters or will their time of loving be cut short?

Ms. Snyder has continued the lives of Caleb and Brance from her earlier story Under the Confederate Moon. It was very interesting to see how people from an earlier age reacted to not only shape shifters but also homosexuality, not that much different than the modern day response to it. It was fascinating to find out about Brance’s childhood and how it shaped his reactions to Caleb, who is open and at times childish in how he looks at life. Together Caleb and Brance seem to fill the empty spaces is each others life and create a love that is strong enough to overcome whatever obstacles that life puts in their way. I hope that there will be more stories about the lives of these two very strong willed and vibrant men.
