Savannah’s Hero

The Civil War tore families apart, including Tristan Kane’s family. He chose to fight for the Confederacy, a choice that led him to shoot his twin brother Michael on a bloody battlefield. It was something he’d always regret, but have to learn to live with. Ten years after that fateful and bloody day Tristan meets the woman whose heart he once broke. Savannah McKenzie helps her brother, a doctor, in the family home where her father died. When a gunslinger is shot, and brought by wagon to the house, she is not happy especially since her son is unduly interested in the hired killer. Savannah is shocked when she recognizes Tristan. Ten years is a long time to miss someone, and Savannah has a secret. As she nurses Tristan’s body she wonders if her care can help restore his spirit. He’s different than she remembers but she longs for the man she once knew.

Savannah’s Hero by Diana Bold is a beautiful love story filled with so many vivid details about the time period that I actually felt pulled back into history. This story has a wonderful, almost haunting, quality to it that is sure to stay in the reader’s mind long after the final page is turned. Tristan’s anger, resentment and sorrow are raw and numbing. In perfect balance, Savannah’s openness, love and acceptance are soothing. The characters in Savannah’s Hero are so heart-stopping real that I could hear them speak and feel their pain. This story could take place at any time, but the fact that it took place in the 1800s gives it extra flair and charm. I loved Savannah’s Hero and will read it again. Bravo, Ms. Bold!
