Reilly’s Promise
Reilly Murdock grew up in the world of the rich and famous, but he left all of that to join the United States Marines Corp. He was the best that they had until he was hit by gunfire and forced to retire. He turned into a private investigator which is where his Gunnery Sergeant found him when he had a job for him to do. Reilly finds himself flying to New York to take on protecting a little rich girl from someone who is trying to harm her after her father was killed. Reilly has his doubts, especially since the girl claims that nothing is going on. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that someone wants Cassandra Van Winter dead, and they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that it happens.
Cassandra knew that her father was cheating on her mother, but she had no idea that he had gambled all of the family inheritance away until the day that he died. She doesn’t mind working and making her own living, but her mother has never had to do that. She is hoping the necklace that was in a trunk she bought in Europe will make enough money when she sells it at an auction that her mother will be ok and will not have to go into the workplace. When she decided to sell the necklace some strange things started to happen to her and her mother hired a former Marine turned private investigator to protect her. Cassandra is furious with her mother for hiring him because she is sure that they are “accidents” and nothing aimed at hurting her. Is she right and are they accidents or is someone out to hurt Cassandra and steal the necklace that will make everything right for her and her mother?
This story drew me in right from the beginning when we met Reilly. I love a story with a Marine out to save the world, or in this case just protect someone, and this story does that in spades. From the minute that Reilly and Cassandra meet the sparks fly and the chemistry is off the charts. They were each lying to each other about themselves and it really added to the story and made the ending very spectacular. The suspense had me biting my nails trying to figure out who the bad guy was, and when it turned out not to be who I thought it was . . . I had to read that much faster to finish the story. This was an all around great story, and I’m hoping for a sequel to come out of this because Reilly has a very yummy looking brother that I would love to see hooked up with someone special.
