Dark Sentinel
First in the Netherworld series, Dark Sentinel tells the story of Teva and Lash. Thrown from hell into the human world, Lash has no clue what is going on. He wakes up naked in the bayou to find Teva trying to care for him, assuming he is being punished yet again by a demon lord. Soon Lash finds out he has been sent on a mission by Satan himself to corrupt her soul. Teva decides to care for Lash and loses her heart in the process, while unknowingly to her, Lash tries to find out how to protect her from him and the rest of the demons.
Dark Sentinel had a lot of potential, and sadly it didn’t live up to it all. While I highly enjoyed Lash as a hero, something was just off. He seemed almost too normal for him to have suffered all that he said he did. I liked that he was vulnerable, that he was scared. It showed a side that is not usually seen in romance heroes. I felt Teva was not right for him, and her character did not seem to be well thought out. Her feelings seem to be all over, and she doesn’t even realize the danger even after it has been spelled out to her, numerous times. When we meet another character, Dion, the book picks up a bit. He seems to be the only fleshed out character in the book, and his addition starts the book rolling, where as every thing seemed to be at a stand still before he appears. Overall I believe this series has potential. Dark Sentinel might remind you of other paranormal series, as many of the aspects in it are also in others, however I would love to read the next book. I want to see what Melissa Lopez has in store, and I feel the world she has built can become another great one for all fans of paranormal.
