Marisa Clyde is an accountant who went on a vacation with some of her friends to Mexico. Jake Sullivan’s a trained soldier, considered dark, dangerous and intriguing with dark eyes. The tour bus Marisa and her friends are riding on is robbed in addition to breaking down. They get rescued by Jake along with his unit. Jake has a month’s leave, so he accompanies Marisa back to the states. He ends up as a bouncer for Marisa’s uncle at his club. Jake is also on a mission as her personal bodyguard to both protect her from the menacing late night telephone calls Marisa starts receiving as well as any excuse to get closer to Marisa.

The attraction involving Marisa and Jake was sizzling all the way through the book. When I think of a hero I imagine Jack. Don’t let the fact that Marisa is an accountant deceive you as she is pretty hard-hitting herself. Be prepared to lose track of time, only to realize that you read this book all in one sitting like I did. Private Maneuvers is the third book in the Hot Zone series. I cannot wait to read the next volume within this series. In the meantime I will just have to settle for checking out additional books by Denise A. Agnew.
