Young Vampires In France
When Monique started her vengeance against the Comte, she didn’t take into account that maybe her feelings towards him would change. No matter what though she has to get justice for Josette. The only way she can think of is to bring down the Comte in his businesses and personal life. Trying to get his top three advisors to agree with what she’s set out to do, Monique also has to contend with the four friends that have come to aid the Comte in stopping her for good. She can’t understand why she keeps losing sight of her goals and trying to deal with falling in love with the man she’s set out to destroy.
Knowing he has to stop her doesn’t mean he doesn’t still want her on the deepest level; he just has to steel himself against her. As old and powerful as he is, he never thought he’d be brought to his knees by a woman he let get as close as he did Monique. The Comte now has to destroy or be destroyed by the woman he loves and wanted to spend the rest of eternity with.
This story is the second of Ms. Ballou’s Young Vampires series but it can be read without reading the first book, Young Vampires In Love. When the Comte finds out what Monique has set out to do Ms. Ballou has written in such a way that the reader not only sees what it does to him, but feels it also. As the secondary characters, Darlene, Jon, Lynette, and Nick come onto the scene you get a story that is fleshed out even more by getting background on how they feel not only about the Comte but about each other as well. My favorite scene is when Monique set out to put a wedge between Darlene, Jon, and the Comte and found she may just have bitten off more than she could chew and I think this is a pivotal point in the book for all the characters.
