Play on Words

Kit Emelin and Tadeo Xalvador head competing divisions of the same company, and they seem to be in conflict at every turn. (It must be their competitive personalities!) But then the company has a team-building retreat at a center in the San Bernardino Mountains. But Tadeo has plans to improve his and Kit’s corporate interaction. Will Kit be able to set aside her workaholic ways to achieve some R&R with Tadeo?

This is an interesting contemporary romantic comedy that takes place at a business retreat. The setting was well-drawn and was very recognizable to someone who has attended one of these events. There were the silly introduction games at the beginning of the weekend, the teamwork exercises on the second day, and the trust events on the final day. (Ah, the memories!) Starting with a sexy game of Scrabble, Kit and Tadeo’s budding romance is played out against this background. Although there are secondary characters, these two main characters are in the forefront at all times, and come across fairly realistically. The sex scenes between the two are playful and very frank, and fun to read. (Although, honestly, I wondered at the wisdom of romance with someone you work with.) I guess you could call this story a corporate fantasy, and I enjoyed it as light recreational reading.
