Kaitlyn McKinney is a police detective who lost her father when she was a very young child and her mother is dying from cancer. She has no siblings and really dreads that she will be all alone when her mother dies. She works to keep her mind off of her mother and has just stumbled onto a very bizarre case. She answers a call about a burning body and when she arrives at the park she sees not a human body, but a very strange creature that looks like a werewolf. She knows this cannot be a werewolf’s because they don’t exist, do they? While she is at the park private investigator Landon Rourke arrives and although he doesn’t see the body because it had already burned up, he says that he will help her with the investigation. She welcomes his help and as things start to heat up between the two of them she finds herself falling in love with the private investigator. Unfortunately, Landon has secrets that he is hiding from her; secrets that change everything that she believes him to be.

Landon has watched over Kaitlyn her whole life. He made sure that she and her mother were taken care of and that she went to the college that she wanted to go to. Landon has a couple of secrets that he has to keep hidden from her and the first is the fact that he is a werewolf, even though she doesn’t think that they exist. She might come to accept that secret but the second one will tear them apart if she ever learns about it. He must hide it from her because he has fallen for this woman and he will do anything and everything in his power to hold onto her forever.

Book two in this series by Ms. Michelle is a powerful story between two people who fall in love and then must decide if they can forgive secrets that would destroy most people’s love. The author has said that she really loved her hero in this story and I understand why. Years ago he did something that went against everything that he knew to be right and he has punished himself everyday since then. To get involved with Kaitlyn was not something that he needed to do but the attraction between the two of them could not be ignored. From the minute that these two met the sparks flew and I was totally engrossed in the story. The couple was very sexy and the mystery was there waiting to be unfolded. Unfortunately, I can’t even give a hint as to the real mystery of this book or Ms. Michelle would not be very happy with me. If you like a sexy book with a mystery that will leave you shaking your head and saying that you did not see that one coming then you need to read Scions: Insurrection by Patrice Michelle.
