Breathless
Nighthawk, half spirit-half man, has several important lessons to learn and a spirit guide, Kaine, who is more than eager to teach them. When Nighthawk died he began his testing, or cleansing as Kaine so eloquently put it. These tests consist of him having to climb in the skin of people that he has wronged and gaining the “full impact” of his treatment of others.
One of those tests transported him back to 1870 where he is placed in Elijah Walker’s body. Elijah is a man of mixed breed who has been wrongfully accused of crimes.
Some believe in karma, some don’t. I personally believe that you get what you give as Roxana Blaze demonstrates in Breathless. Nighthawk gains the complete brunt of how he has used others for his own purpose. Seeing him subjected to another’s hurt, humiliation, and discomfort in hopes of gaining redemption, is enough to humble a person. I couldn’t imagine having to survive that type of punishment. At one point I felt sorry for Elijah because of what he had to endure; but remembering the reason that Nighthawk was witnessing and experiencing that exact moment in time allowed me to appreciate the lessons learned. Ms. Blaze has written a wonderful story with a sound plot, strong and engaging characters, and poignant messages throughout. I enjoyed reading Breathless and would recommend it to those who enjoy the genre.
