Her Little Black Book
Most women participating in a wedding receive jewelry from the bride-to-be. Sonya Morrison is the recipient of her cousins little black book. Thanks to the drama that Sonya’s parents call their marriage, finding a man has as much appeal as having a root canal. But Sonya has never met a man like Lake Masters, and has no idea what is in store for her. Nearly ten years her senior, Lake has a package that most women only dream their future mates could possess.
After having a jaded view of “love” for all of her life, will Sonya recognize the gift that is within her grasp?
I’ll openly admit that Brenda Jackson is one of my favorite authors, and has been since I started reading African American romance four years ago. Her Little Black Book is yet another demonstration of her talents. The story is entertaining from beginning to end and cleverly delivers lessons on forgiveness, recognizing destiny, commitment, friendship and love. While the characters are believable and have that “next door neighbor” quality, the book delves into a story that we can relate to on at least one level or another. I found myself represented in at least two of the characters and it made me step back and take a look at life. Sonya is beautiful in mind, body, and spirit. She’s the kind of woman that makes you ask “why isn’t she married?” Lake is every woman’s fantasy and hopes for reality rolled up into one gorgeous package. The two have an attraction that ignites from the first glance. And the techniques used by Lake to make love to Sonya should be added in the fine print of every man seeking marriage. I am hoping to see a book or books about Peggy and Barbara. Both of these women touched me deserve to receive happy endings served up by men strong enough to deliver them. Her Little Black Book has been written with style and sophistication that is synonymous to what we expect from this fantastic author. And after so many years Brenda Jackson still has a way of bringing fresh ideas to her stories.
