Alan, a stay-at-home dad, finds himself drawn to mystery novels to escape his abusive marriage. He loves his son dearly, but his fire breathing dragon for a wife leaves something to be desired on the home front. Alan flees his home after harsh words are exchanged, and within a matter of seconds the young father’s life is altered.

Jared is a charmer and considered a playboy by some, and after twenty years of running his own business he only knows how to take control of a situation. By the end of a country trip Alan gains back his self-confidence and Jared gets something he didn’t know he wanted: someone to love.

Man of Mystery is a story about love and breaking the cycle of abuse. My heart went out to Alan. Most people know about spousal abuse from the woman’s prospective. Madeleine Urban brings the plight of male spousal abuse to the forefront in Man of Mystery. Jared has a hard edge that was softened over the course of the trip. The characters were down-to-earth and the story was believable. I thoroughly enjoyed Man of Mystery and look forward to reading more novels by Madeleine Urban. Readers of the genre will not be disappointed.
