Laird of the Mist
For over two centuries the MacGregors have been considered the scourge of Scotland and their name has been proscribed for the last fifty years for crimes they have committed against the Campbell’s.
Callum MacGregor has spent his entire life fighting and is known far and wide as the Devil MacGregor. He would like nothing more than to track down Duncan Campbell, the Earl of Argyll and kill him for what he’s done to Callum and his family but when he arrives at the Campbell castle he sees that an attack is already in process and Argyll’s niece is right in the middle, fighting for her life.
After saving Kate Campbell’s life, Callum decides to take Kate with him to draw her uncle out but the more time he spends with her, the harder he finds it to deny the longing she brings out in him for the normal life he will never have.
First I have to say that I usually have to be in the right mood to read a historical and normally I’m not too fond of them but Laird of the Mist by Paula Quinn blew me away and changed my mind completely. Kate is a strong-willed, compassionate heroine; Callum is a passionate but tortured man who longs for a normal life and when these two come together it is nothing short of magic. The many sub characters add another realistic layer to the story and had me laughing out loud more than once.
Paula Quinn has a great talent for creating characters that burrow into your heart and make you feel their happiness as well as sadness. I highly recommend this book to historical and non-historical lovers alike. It’s one you don’t want to miss! I will be eagerly awaiting Graham’s story in the second book Surrender in the Mist.
