(Just Like) Starting Over

Guy Rivera doesn’t recognize his new caregiver Dane Mathis. In fact, Guy doesn’t recognize anything in his life after a horrible car accident. But somehow Dane fits rather well into Guy’s life, as if he has been there before. Guy not only needs Dane in his life, even if it is just for his basic needs, but he wants him there as well. Dane doesn’t want Guy to know the truth, that he and Guy were partners at one point but have been separated for the last few months. Dane drops everything to be by Guy’s side in his time of need. Dane has his own recovery to make, however, and isn’t sure if a renewed relationship with his ex-lover is such a great idea.

Pepper Espinoza creates a deliciously complicated story right from page one. Dane especially was complex, with his own rehabilitation coming to light slowly throughout the story, making him even more likeable and relatable with each word I read. I’ve never had amnesia but Pepper Espinoza captured what I imagined it must be like. I just love a romance like the one between Dane and Guy, where neither character is perfect yet by the end you just know they are perfect for each other.
