Devil Take Me
Annie Theophilus has had nothing but bad luck in her life. She finally thinks things are going well until she discovers her fiancé cheating with their neighbor. Finally the stress is too much and she ends up crying alone in her dark garage, except she isn’t really alone. It turns out that her garage is a portal to the Underworld, but the man who stepped out of it looks like heaven to her. Namtar has come to Earth looking for power to overthrow his queen. He needs a mortal to give up their soul in order for that to happen, but he gets much more than he bargained for with Annie. While struggling with his foreign emotions, Namtar must now protect Annie from her ex- fiancé and a few demons, all while trying to get her to stay by his side.
Devil Take Me is an enthralling story and I enjoyed every minute of it. The Underworld is not the hellish place we think of, at least not entirely. Once a great and fertile land, the Underworld has been dying under the rule of their corrupt queen. Namtar wants his world to become what it once was, and to do that he needs a soul. What he gets instead is Annie. At first, Annie is not very likable. She lets people walk over her and it is hard to even feel sorry for her. Anna J. Evans has done a great job turning Annie into a strong, capable heroine who I would love to have as a friend. Circumstances make Annie change quickly, and luckily she has Namtar to help her. For being a citizen of hell, Namtar is a character I loved right away. He doesn’t seem untouchable, even though he is thousands of years old and he can wield magic. Namtar is the perfect partner for Annie and together they are sweet, romantic, and sexy. Devil Take Me is fantastic all around from the first page to the last.
