Varick has made a few mistakes in his life and is looking for a second chance when he moves to Medfield. All he wants is to get on with his life and try to forget about the mistakes that he has made. But when Cal shows up in town he lets Varick know that he wants Varick and nothing will stand in his way. But Varick will have to overcome his past in order to embrace his future.

I really liked the premise of Far Away Promises but found that the execution left my enjoyment a bit lacking. The beginning of the story is actually the middle. It’s not until the end that all is explained and the reader learns how the story truly began. While this plot device works in some instances I didn’t feel like it did this story justice. I felt like I was missing something from the moment I read the first paragraph. I even went to see if there was a previous book that I had missed. It was then that I discovered that this was the first novel that author Marianne Guenon has had published. This explains a great deal about some of the inconsistencies that I found throughout the novel. That being said, I did enjoy the story and believe that Ms. Guenon showed great promise and that she will only continue to grow with each story that she writes. Varick and Cal were interesting characters and when allowed to connect I was drawn in. I will try this author again in the future.
