Vortex Blues

Detective Mitch Guthrie has been transferred to the SPOOK Squad, a place that he dreads to be, but after punching his last boss in the mouth he has little choice in the matter. When he is partnered with Molly Beck, a succubus, he thinks that matters couldn’t get much worse. Boy is he wrong. With Cleo, yes, the actual Cleopatra, as a boss, a host of otherworldly creatures and a Succubus as his partner, Mitch is in for the ride of his life.

Filled with supernatural creatures galore, Vortex Blues was a fast paced paranormal mystery. There were plenty of suspenseful and humorous moments to keep the plot rolling along. Molly and Mitch went well together but I never quite believed in the interactions between the two. They complemented one another but the chemistry still seemed a bit off to me for some reason, I have yet to put my finger on why. The mystery was well written and I enjoyed the byplay between the other characters. The humor worked for the most part, although there were a few instances where I felt it wasn’t needed. The paranormal world built by Ms. Gerow was well thought out and planned and seems like an intriguing place to visit.
