A Knight’s Reward
Gisela Anne Balewyne had taken all the abuse from her husband that she could stand. Taking her son and running for her life is the only way she can escape his drunken madness and blatant cruelty. Hiding out as a tailor in nearby Clovebury, she is constantly on the lookout because she knows if Ryle finds her it will surely be the death of her or her son, and she will do whatever it takes to keep her son safe. Doing what she can to make ends meet and to save up money to get away from him for good, Gisela takes on a job to make a dress for Crenardieu, a villain who has been terrorizing the town with his local thugs, with a fine silk that was sure to have been very expensive.
Dominic de Terre is finally back in England after being on the Crusade for the last several years. His friend and Lord, Geoffrey de Lanceau has commissioned him to find out who has stolen a shipment of very expensive silk. His investigation brings Dominic to Clovebury where he discovers Gisela, going by the name “Anne”, working as a tailor. He can’t believe his eyes when he sees the woman he left so long ago and has never forgotten her or the day they spent surrounded by a field of daisies.
When the secrets of their past and present start to unravel, will there still be a possible future for Dominic and Gisela? Will Ryle ever track down Gisela and fulfill his promise to her?
A Knight’s Reward is one book that fans of historical romance will not want to pass up. While never having read any of author Catherine Kean’s past books, I can definitely say she is one author that has impressed me. Her characters are very well rounded and thought out. Gisela was by far my favorite because of her situation. Readers will get to know her and relate to her plight. She did what any self respecting woman would have done to survive an abusive husband while protecting her child. The attraction between her and Dominic was very well written and genuine to readers, and one can truly understand why he had to leave her so long ago. With A Knight’s Reward, Mrs. Kean has penned a delightful adventure which gives us an evil husband, a bad guy to hate, a warrior to love and a heroine we will truly enjoy.
