Hold On to Me

FBI profiler Caitlin Falconetti and former FBI agent now Investigator Lamar “Tick” Calvert have a history, one with secrets and memories that refuse to remain hidden now that they’re forced to work together again. Brought in to help with the unsolved murders of several young women, Caitlin must face the fact that she’s not over the near-fatal attack that cost her everything she cherished most. What she doesn’t need is to let her feelings for Tick interfere with their investigation, but he’s not helping with his constant nearness.

Tick isn’t over Caitlin, but he’s never been sure what went wrong and is determined to find out. He knows something happened while he was away undercover, he just doesn’t know what. The one thing he does know is that he’ll do anything to win her back and keep her this time. With their forced proximity and a killer on the loose, one who is closer than they think, Tick and Caitlin must solve the murders and keep their renewed relationship under control because they’ll need all their wits to outsmart a killer when he turns his sights on Caitlin.

Hold On to Me is the third book in Linda Winfree’s Hearts of the South series, and yet again she’s proven a master of romantic suspense. With nail biting tension she keeps you on the edge of your seat, turning pages at warp speed and ignoring everything around you. If you’ve read any of Ms. Winfree’s books you would have come across both our hero and heroine before, and it’s great to be able to catch up with them and find out their stories. Tick is one lovable character and with his honor, loyalty and genuine good guy nature you’re firmly in his court cheering him on. While Caitlin may appear tough and untouchable she has this soft vulnerable inner self that Ms. Winfree has no trouble fleshing out. The woman certainly knows how to write characters that are engaging and real, someone you might find living next door. Her ability to delve deep into any emotional issue while delivering a mystery with twists and turns you don’t expect is one of the reasons I love her writing and she again delivers the goods with Hold On to Me. I can’t recommend her books enough and there’s no doubt in my mind why she continues to put out book after book. Her style and skill at story telling are something not to be missed.
