Still Waters

Sophie is on to the trail of a murderer again but this time she’s pretty much on her own with a lot of problems surrounding everyone she knows. It is the week before Christmas, Sophie’s parents and brother are in Australia, SO17 has been shut down so she and her fellow agents are unemployed, the airport doesn’t want her back in her old job, Luke is her ex-boyfriend, and Harvey and Angel’s perfect relationship has hit a major snag. While on a trip to Cornwall, a girl is murdered and the circumstances are too unusual for Sophie to stay out of the mystery. But this time Sophie may have bit off more than she can handle and she’s really getting tired of people trying to kill her all the time!

Still Waters by Kate Johnson is the forth book of the Sophie Green Mysteries series. Sophie is still adorably klutzy, much smarter than she looks, too nosy for her own health, and mixed up about what to do about Luke. Luke is still incredibly sexy and almost at the end of his patience with Sophie. He tells her he’s crazy about her and she gets mad? I liked the mystery in this tale but I got very frustrated with Sophie’s continuous inability to decide if she loves Luke or not. She spends most of the story worried about caring for Luke; is she good enough for him, will he get tired of her, is she standing in the way of his career, and just about every conceivable thing she can think of to put space between them. The conflict between Harvey and Angel at least made sense to me, but Sophie is just nuts. The book ends with a number of unresolved issues so I assume there will be a fifth book in the series. I will probably read it but I sure hope Sophie won’t be so insecure anymore, that problem has gone on long enough for me! If you have enjoyed the first three Sophie Green Mysteries you will not want to skip this one. The overall story is really cute and entertaining and worth the time to read it!
