Beguiled
Beguiled by A.J. Llewellyn is another book in the Phantom Lover series.
Kimo, a very powerful Kahuna, or spiritual leader, and his lover Lopaka have taken great thought in hiding their family from outside threats. Recently, Lopaka was almost killed by Kimo’s ex-wife and they are afraid that others will try and hurt their newborn twins. The boys show great promise in being even more powerful than Kimo when they grow up. Kimo has taken his entire family to a ancient, spiritual and well hidden village, Kona, where they are protected as long as they remain inside its protective barriers. Today is Halloween and the children want nothing more than to have fun and a family day filled with Halloween treats. Unfortunately, Lopaka’s step-grandfather, Sammy, is missing leaving Lopaka and Kimo to locate him. With outside help and Kimo’s powers they manage to find Sammy, but the real problems start when they realize that he is under the control of a one hundred year old obake, a ghost of a Japanese obon dancer, Aoi. Aoi jumps from Sammy to Lopaka and refuses to leave. Kimo must find a way to release not only Lopaka, but the soul of the ghost and just maybe the holiday of Halloween will give him the setting he needs to do just that.
Mr. Llewellyn has once again merged Hawaiian traditions with modern society and added Japanese beliefs into an action packed story with heart and enough heat to fulfill everyone’s wishes. It is fascinating to watch Kimo as he uses his spiritual powers to protect the ones he loves; and for the enjoyment of his children. You would never expect someone as powerful as Kimo to be at the beck and call of his children and it is fun to watch it unfold. The love between Kimo and Lopaka is once again put to the test, but they never fail to support and love each other in times of crises. I can’t wait to read more stories about Lopaka, Kimo and their entire family as they experience love, laughter, and most importantly family. Thanks go to Mr. Llewellyn for another inspiring story.
