Dark Thirst
Brethren vampire Brandon Noble is a member of an ancient, vicious clan, living on a vast spread of land in Kentucky with three other clans. They keep to themselves, only socializing with humans when necessary for business…and for life’s blood. He’s never fit in with the rest of his family. A childhood tragedy left him weak, in the eyes of his kin, an embarrassment to their strength and power. Then, Brandon refuses to drain the blood of his tutor’s beautiful sister, Angelina, for his first bloodletting. That earns the Brethren’s unrelenting fury and physical abuse. Unable to take any more of his clan’s abuses, Brandon leaves Kentucky for his former tutor’s home.
When Angelina Jones arrives at her brother’s house to complete some house-sitting chores, she never expected to find Brandon Noble there, and certainly not naked and wet inside a steaming bathroom. Determined to keep an eye on her brother’s former charge, she insinuates herself into his life. But this isn’t the boy she used to know. He’s a grown man, dark, mysterious, incredibly strong and swift, and awakens in her a passion she’s never known.
Angelina senses in Brandon deep secrets he’s afraid to share. As she unravels his dark and twisted past, she realizes that he has many demons to battle, including his family, whose twisted sense of vengeance could mean the end of his life, and his own internal bloodlust, which could be the end of hers.
Kudos to Sara Reinke for her unique and thoroughly compelling vampire world in Dark Thirst. I read this book in one sitting, unable to tear myself away from this young, likeable, enigmatic vampire. I loved how he comes in to various astounding powers and is just as puzzled by them as Angelina. His instincts, passion and inner battle with his bloodlust were riveting. You’ll become enraged at his enemies and cheer at his victories.
I also enjoyed immersing myself in Angelina’s independence, her protective instincts for Brandon and her complete vulnerability in loving him. She has a great combination of intelligence and street smarts, combined with her absolute conviction of living life her way. Dark Thirst has it all: internal and external conflict, heated passion, suspenseful plot and vibrant secondary characters. I heartily give this fabulous page-turner a Recommended Read!
