Music Master
Music Master is the type of Regency romance any reader of the genre is sure to enjoy. Not only does it satisfy the typical expectations of Regency readers, it gives an added mystery and flair to the genre that, while unexpected, is perfectly enjoyable.
Leighton has been away, engaged in difficult, dangerous work, for quite some time. His work has been kept from the woman he loves, Maddie Westlake. When the war ends and he goes home to marry her he finds that his subterfuge worked well in the army but has had adverse effects on his personal life. Maddie lets Leighton court her. They find their way to understanding each other, but are pulled into a sinister plot that nearly foils their chances at finding happiness.
Barbara Miller has a gift for telling a story. This one feels so realistic I was engaged right from the first pages. I could feel the horse cantering, see the scowl on Patience’s face and hear the dancing music. The descriptions were lush and evocative. I thought this was the one of the strongest elements of this story. There were a few instances where the story lagged, but not enough to disturb my enjoyment. I liked Maddie’s spunk and spirit. Leighton turned into a strong hero as well. Overall, Music Master is a fine way to spend a few hours.
