Border Wedding

Sir Walter Scott, or Wat by friends and family, only wanted to get what was his back from Sir Iagan Murray, never mind the fact that he knew it was against The Douglas’ rules at the time. He just wanted revenge for someone taking his animals. He didn’t expect to be caught and possibly hanged, but the ale he had beforehand clouded his better judgment. When he wakes in a dungeon only later to be brought in front of Murray’s family, he immediately refuses to marry Murray’s homely daughter in order not to face the noose. However when Iagan threatens his men and one of his clans youngsters, who had followed unknowingly, Wat feels he must choose marriage to Iagan’s daughter to save the others.

Lady Margaret Murray, or Meg, wasn’t any more interested in marrying Wat as he was her, but she cannot believe her eyes when her father threatens to hang the young lad. Knowing that she has saved lives she doesn’t mind being married to Wat. However once she gets to know the man behind the facade, she begins to enjoy his company. It doesn’t take long for them to start butting heads, and she has to decide if she wants to be the type of woman her mother was or the one who can be open and talk, or argue, with her husband. With the war looming between England and Scotland, they both must choose what is more important, their relationship, their families or their loyalties. Will they be able to survive their enemies and their family ties in order to stay together and fall in love?

Amanda Scott has possibly written the best historical in ages! She brought about the true Scottish temperament in all her men in this story including Wat. He was a hero to drool over. While he had his moments of stubbornness, he also had his moments of softness towards Meg. The passion between Meg and Wat will keep readers turning the pages just to see what mishap they may encounter next. Amalie, Meg’s sister, also had a secondary story going along that really brought this story to a head. There was not a part of this story that was not enjoyable. Readers will watch Meg grow from a maiden who came full circle into her own strong woman. While there were fatalities that made one want to scream, it is a time of war and there are casualties. Border Weddings is the best book to come along in a long time, and the anticipation for the next book with Amalie has already begun.
