Beast of Desire

Des is a White Knight who is part of an elite army under the angel Raphael. Des is over one-hundred years old and lives with the fear that his beast that lives inside of him could break free and cause havoc. He is called on a mission to obtain the Journal of Solomon that a museum has discovered. If this falls into the wrong hands, the demons they fight will be able to have incredible powers and could take down the White Knights.

Jessica Montgomery works for the Dallas World Museum, which has the journal in its safe keeping. Jessica feels assured that no one will try to steal it and is thrilled to have such an amazing find. She is quite overwhelmed when a Mr. Desmond Smith comes to see her about giving a donation to the museum. Des is very attracted to Jessica but does not give into temptation and keeps his mind strong. He refuses to act on this attraction because of his nature and of his past when another woman betrayed him when he was still mortal.

But eventually they do end up in bed together. Jessica’s father is suddenly attacked and the journal is stolen. Des must now protect Jessica, and with his band of White Knights they must defeat the demons and get the journal back from Jessica’s boss who stole the artifact for the same demons they are trying to defeat. Jessica falls further into Des’s world and becomes closer to him than any other woman before her. Des wants Jessica as his mate, but since that means forever, he is not sure if she is ready for that step and has the fear that his beast could take over and possibly harm her.

With action, suspense and a bit of the paranormal, Lisa Renee Jones has written an interesting society of men and women who make up the White Knights. This secret world of demons and angels takes the reader on a spiritual and metaphysical journey. Even though the romance between Des and Jessica is first and foremost, the story relies heavily on this group of warriors as a whole. I found myself engrossed as I read further along and couldn’t wait to find out who would come out on top. This truly is a story about good versus evil.

Beast of Desire may be a short read, but it delivers a great story and with a character such as Des who comes across as tortured. But in the long run, love sets him free with a woman who is willing to give him her heart and soul. Fans of paranormal romance should definitely pick this book up and take a few hours to lose themselves with the story of Des and his lovely mate, Jessica.
