Beware False Profits

Sucked into investigating another mystery, Aggie Sloan-Wilcox is now searching for Joe Wagner. According to his wife, Joe disappeared on his way to his meeting for ‘Fund for Food’. In the course of her search, Aggie discovers that Joe has been dressing as a woman and singing in a female impersonators’ club. Meanwhile at home, Joe’s wife, is struggling to take care of all the things that he usually does while begging Aggie to find her husband. Despite her promise to her husband to not meddle, Aggie can’t help but get involved. At the same time, Aggie must deal with her daughters as well as a missing punch bowl. As if this is not enough, a murder occurs in a public place… Where is Joe and why did he leave? Who is killer and why was the victim murdered?

Emilie Richards is a solid writer who provides a sturdy background to her story. I felt that the story had a very good plot it was slow in its pace at first. The book became more interesting as it went along. I especially liked how Emilie Richards was able to portray her characters as ‘real people’ – they had realistic concerns and jobs to attend. Beware False Profits is an interesting story and has a twist at the end that is completely unexpected. At times the plot becomes confusing; however, the writing is strong enough to keep the reader hooked. I was completely surprised by the ending as well as the revelation as to who the killer was; I would never have guessed! I think that Emilie Richards is a very good writer and I would like to read more of her books in the future.
