Jazzy Little Christmas
Jazzy Little Christmas by Nica Berry is one of Loose Id’s Festival of Light shorts for Christmas.
Gerry Benson is deeply in love with Javier, and every time they make love he composes beautiful music in his mind that is loved by all of his fans. Everything is perfect, and Gerry couldn’t be happier. It is Christmas, and when Javier gets home from his gig, Gerry is planning to give him a ring to show him how much he loves Javier. Unfortunately, things don’t work out when Javier leaves him an email that he was leaving for Paris with another musician. Gerry withdrawls into himself and refuses to play music any more.
Three years later, Gerry is still grieving for not only the loss of his love, but the loss of his music too. Gerry was inspired by his lover and hasn’t even played the piano since Javier left. Gerry can’t stand listening to the sounds of Christmas because it reminds him of his loss and he goes to take a walk without any real direction. At the same time, Paz is at the beach with a friend when he spots a person in the distance. He realizes it is Gerry Benson who played once at his school and left such an impression on Paz that every man he ever met after that never measured up to his memories of Gerry. Paz realizes that there is something wrong when Gerry heads towards they end of the pier. Will Paz get to Gerry in time? Will Gerry find what he is missing in his life, the muse for his soul and music?
Ms. Berry has created a poignant and heart rending story about love, loss, and finding the strength to go on with your life. Paz and Gerry's lives are at two different places, and it is interesting to see how Paz's youth allows him to help Gerry in ways other people were unable to help him. I loved how music is the pivotal point of the story, and it affects everyone in the story. Together they could play beautiful music if Gerry can see that love, like music, can come in many forms. You just have to keep your eyes open to new possibilities. Thanks go to Ms. Berry for a very interesting read.
