Intimate Traitors
Armen Markus works for the enemy as a prison interrogator. And the enemy is a government that controls everything down to the amount of food a person consumes. What his employer doesn’t know is that he’s a double agent feeding information to the resistance, a group trying to overthrow the government. When Armen sees his ex-lover, Ravi Jai in a prison line up he is more than surprised, he is scared for his old friend’s life. Armen does his best to try to save Ravi’s life, but Ravi has a secret agenda of his own, that may just cost them both everything.
Going in with no expectations, having never read Astrid Amara’s work before Intimate Traitors, this novel is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Never dull, the plot was well constructed, flowing from one scene to another in such away so that every scene was filled with just the right amount of tension. The main characters were likeable and realistic, making up for the fact that the plot was a bit predictable. Amara’s portrayal of a double agent, through Armen’s character, started to capture the emotion and tension one must feel in that type of real life situation, but compassion for him felt forced in some places. However, the interchange between the Ravi and Armen make up for this. The scenes with these two men always left me on the edge of my seat. No two characters ever created where meant to be in a story together more than these two.
