Eighteen year old Robyn Andrews has escaped from the worst type of prison. Jake Carter has kept her locked up in the basement of his ranch for almost four years. He was responsible for getting her mother hooked on drugs, which ended up killing her. Robyn needs to escape before Jake rapes her, even if it means killing one of his guards to break free. With only a small amount of money and her journal, she makes her way onto a bus to vanish where Jake will never be able to find her.

Trigg is a vampire and a watcher who helps keep vampires in line since some go rogue and drink from innocent humans. To pass the time before dawn comes, he decides to go to his favorite restaurant and have a bite to eat. He quickly notices a frail young woman who shows such sadness in her eyes. She calls out to his soul, but Trigg knows he can never be with a human. Robyn is in shock when the strange man she has noticed buys her a meal. Before she can thank him, he is gone. Their paths cross again when Robyn is searching for a place to sleep for the night and sees her kind stranger being attacked. She places herself in danger not knowing these are rogues. Trigg is able to defeat them, but Robyn is hurt trying to help him. Because of her bravery, Trigg takes her to his home to recover.

Robyn makes a full recovery and is still not sure about Trigg. She has seen some things that don’t make sense and is scared. Trigg wants to keep her with him and protect her. But as his feelings turn to more of an animalistic attraction for Robyn, Jake is on his way, searching for her and will stop at nothing to make her pay for leaving him.

Midnight Reborn is a great action packed romance with a wonderful hero and heroine who are so perfect for each other. Robyn is one character you will feel great pain for because of the horrors she has gone through. Trigg is such a lonely individual who needs Robyn in his harsh life. The way he treats Robyn is so touching, and the build up to when they make love is worth it. Jake is truly a nasty piece of work, and I couldn’t wait till he gets what’s coming to him.

D. McEntire has written a creative world of vampires that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Robyn and Trigg’s romance is lush and very intimate with nicely written love scenes. For an overall wonderful paranormal romance, pick up Midnight Reborn.
