Holding Her Own

Caitlin Chaney prayed for the day when she could leave her boring accounting job behind and prove to her father that she could make it in the undercover world of the FBI. When the call comes in that her expertise is needed, she knows she’s the right woman for the job. AND to top it off they’re putting her in charge!

Agent Jake LeFevre isn’t very excited to be working with a greenhorn and when he discovers she’s actually in charge, the sparks fly. Pretending to be married to the lady is not his idea of a good cover story. After all, who would marry an uptight broad like her?

Jake soon finds out that there is more than meets the eye with Caitlin and Caitlin soon discovers she can have everything she wants IF she can figure out exactly what she wants and FAST!

Holding Her Own by Marie-Nicole Ryan was a stimulating read! In the beginning I knew Caitlin was sure of the direction she wanted her life to take. She knew who she was and what she wanted to achieve. She works as an accountant, but has visions of grandeur with the FBI, all to prove to her father that she is worthy of his attention. Being placed into a real FBI undercover operation was cool, but she got to be the agent in charge. Watching Caitlin strive to be everything she thought her father wanted was heartbreaking. I read along waiting for the shining moment when she would realize who Jake was as a person. Then I could really feel the heat. Watching Caitlin and Jake find each other and bloom as a couple was invigorating. I love how Ms. Ryan portrayed Caitlin and Jake as very real individuals with their own personalities and individual problems to work through. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author!
