Siren Singing

Sonia Karishja and Vander Ulneric have agreed to an arranged marriage to help cement a treaty between their two worlds and facilitate a partnership to fight their shared enemy. Sonia has studied all the information she could find about Vander and knows he is a good, strong military leader for his planet. She has already fallen in love with the man but will he ever be able to do the same? Vander hasn’t bothered to learn anything about Sonia, it is an arranged marriage and he doesn’t think it will change much for him until he sees and meets her. Vander recognizes that Sonia is an extraordinarily beautiful woman and at the wedding he discovers she has an incredible voice with the power to control armies; Sonia is a Siren. Vander realizes he has gotten much more than he anticipated and he will never have the celibate marriage he expected, but can he utilize Sonia’s gift without making her a target for assassination?

I really enjoyed the imagination and creativity that this story is infused with. What a neat characteristic to have, the power to literally control minds with a voice and song. And then combining that power with a story of two differing cultures being brought together out of the necessity to work together to defeat a common enemy and a romance rolled into one, is wonderful! I loved the characters, the descriptions of their worlds, the descriptions of the cultural differences, and the compromises that had to be made to bring these two individuals together as a pair. And then add to that the romance and sexual chemistry between Sonia and Vander to top it all off. But in case you think that might be boring, there is political intrigue and betrayal that puts not only Sonia and Vander’s relationship at risk but their lives as well. The whole story makes a fantastic fantasy adventure and I enjoyed it very much. I hope there will be more books about these two worlds and these cultures especially starring some of the fun secondary characters that appeared in this tale!
