Diamond: Beyond The Veil

Drawn to the Warren Mansion for as long as she could remember, Carolyn Bennett now works as curator at the Warren Mansion Museum. Attracted to history as well as the paranormal, Carolyn left a larger museum behind for the chance to work at the small haunted house. Legend has it that one of the previous owners, Bruce Warren, died under mysterious circumstances years ago and when Carolyn finds an old ring purported to allow communication with Bruce, she slips the ring on her finger. So begins her encounters with the cursed, pre-civil war Southern gentleman. Only this man has more than courting on his mind.

As the passion between Carolyn and Bruce builds to a fever pitch, Carolyn realizes she can’t imagine life without him and sets her mind to discovering who or what cursed Bruce and how to free him from those bonds. But when the voodoo priestess sees how close Carolyn has come to freeing him, she’ll do anything to prevent Carolyn’s success.

Beyond The Veil is a unique, erotic tale of two lovers against insurmountable odds, trying to discover a way to be together. As they get to know each other, their intimate encounters were ethereal and sensual, all at once, causing me to fantasize about a paranormal encounter of my own. Sometimes on her plane of existence and sometimes on his, the two come together in a way that gives new meaning to the term “timeless romance”.

Although I really enjoyed this story, I found it a bit odd that Bruce would meet the young curator, then apologize, bind her hands and proceed to have sex with her. One would think, after his long period of solitude, once seeing a woman manifesting before him, he’d have other things on his mind—like escape. As it’s a short story, some in depth details were omitted from the telling of this tale, but after reading Beyond The Veil, my desire has been whetted for the possibility of reading the continuation of Bruce and Carolyn’s story. 4 Angels
