Muslim Lover
Taking an elective studies summer class on the life of Muhammad, the narrator of this story, known only as One, meets a Muslim student that One has nicknamed Zee. What started out as curiosity for those that follow the Prophet of Islam turned into a passionate tale of love for this young reporter and her mysterious Muslim man.
From the first moment One sees Zee, she admits an attraction for the dark-skinned handsome man with the brooding eyes. Questioning her desire to truly know his people, Zee teaches her the meaning of being a Muslim, of being a peaceful Arab.
His poetic words and tales seduce One, infiltrating her mind, slowly crumbling her defenses and help her to learn what it means to submit to the will of another. The couple finds love together and One finally understands what it means to rely on another. Are they fated to be together, or will the prejudices of the world stand in their way?
In the literary world, there are many very good authors and fabulous stories. But every once in a while a story arrives on the scene that is altogether breathtakingly new and enchanting. Muslim Lover is just such a story. Through the eyes of Zee and One, the reader wakes from a media induced stupor, recognizing anew not to judge people based on half-truths or the actions of a few.
A love so poetic and real, I found myself mentally submitting with One, yearning for the peace Zee proclaimed. Swept away with the surreal and mesmerizing flow of the narration, I was startled by the rude awakening that I’d reached the end. This may be the first I’ve read of author Rorrey Lynch but it most certainly will not be the last.
