To Tempt A Wolf

Cadon Sterling has dreamed for the last three nights of a seductive, unknown woman. He also sees in these visions one of the Chivra, a rune his people are charged by Odin to find and retrieve before the vampyr nation can do the same. Cadon Sterling is a high-blood Moiadir of the Shandai (werewolf pack leader) who has served the full possible term in his office, 105 years (Shandai age 1 year to our 7). Cadon wishes to retire from his position of leader, but not everyone is happy with his decision. Meghi, Cadon’s Tvyr (pack enforcer), personal body guard, friend, and ex-lover, would prefer to follow him rather than the successor his uncle, the Alpha-Ishtar, has chosen, Tigg.

Brielle Austin recently moved into Bloomberg, Pennsylvania and took over Sweet Treets, her recently departed Grandmother’s candy/bakery/coffee shop. Brielle avoids relationships. Her grandmother cast a love mark on Brielle as a young child to help her find her true love. Unfortunately, her grandmother didn’t think Brielle had any magic in her (like her mother). Brielle was gifted, though and the spell became amplified as a result. Now all men are drawn to her, and quickly become obsessed with her with little encouragement. Brielle, though she wants a relationship, has given up trying. She simply wants to run her candy shop and practice her magic in peace. Cadon has had few relationships, and none with a human. After all, high-blood Shandai are forbidden to mate with humans. But when Cadon and Brielle meet, magic cannot be denied.

I did not read the first book in this series, yet it only took me one chapter to understand the world. The story is great. The Chivra runes make an interesting plot device. The chemistry between Cadon and Brielle works. I like the “magical” long distance aspect to their budding relationship. Both Cadon and Brielle are strong characters who are willing to make sacrifices for their values, beliefs, and commitments. I also love how happenstance doesn’t fix all of their problems. Love comes with a price sometimes, and Cadon and Brielle willingly pay that price. Meghi, Cadon’s Tvyr, intrigued me. She is a strong, caustic woman with a tortured past who gives her loyalty to few. I look forward to a possible sequel about Meghi in Colette Denee’s Rune series. Overall, To Tempt a Wolf is great paranormal erotica.
