Fur and Feather

Centuries ago, Darius was cursed. Now he spends all but three days of the month as a Raven. He is part of the Raven Warriors, who protect special people. Darius has been given a sort of reprieve in order to find the killer of two werewolf children and various animals and humans.

The vedma, or witch of the pack, is a woman with whom Darius has a past. A bad past. And she has been keeping a secret from him for centuries.

Alena is a half-were/half-human woman who ran from the pack years ago, after the death of her father and disappearance of her mother. Her uncle, a cruel man, who believed half-breeds were sub-par and therefore not part of the pack, inflicted abuse on Alena just as she was about to change for the first time. It was her response to this that had her running. Now her cousin has asked her to come back and find the one who killed one of her children.

Can these two come together and find freedom from their pasts? Can they find the evil that lurks and fulfill their promise to rid the pack of it?

This story is certainly complex enough to make a good read and for that reason it held my interest to the end. The characters are very individualized and rich, but I found parts of the story confusing. Only in the fact that the timeline was confusing in places. I wasn’t sure at the beginning of a few sections when in the timeline we were. If the story had taken a jump backwards, in other words.

Other than that minor problem I loved the story. I found the Raven Warrior concept to be new and fresh. Something I had never read before. Not in this form. The characters of Darius, Alena, Vincent and Marija pulled me into the story and at one point I was not sure I was going to get my HEA. For me to doubt that, even for a second, means the story is very good. It means the Ms. Hart did more than her job, she succeeded in taking me out of the expectations I had and sent me reeling with ‘how can this be’.

As this is the second book in a series, I plan on buying the first and the third which I understand is coming soon. Buy the two, put Ms. Hart on your to buy list and keep up with what is an overwhelmingly interesting world.
