Sweeter Than Honey
PI Honey Marie Loffington attended court reporting school for a while, then dropped out and joined her twin, Brad, with the Pima Probe Agency. She is a crucial part of the legal defense team and has been doing some investigative work to help Stanley Green, who has been accused of car jacking. Even with a good lawyer like Allan Renton, Stanley called upon Honey for extra leg work. Stopping off for a cup of coffee, Honey is accidentally bumped into by a handsome man, who offers to pay for the dry cleaning for spilling coffee on her. Later, Honey recognizes the same man, who introduced himself as Mark, as the court reporter at Stanley’s case. Mark Ryan knows Honey is a sure thing. He also knows being a court reporter means as an officer of the court has responsibilities including unbiased participant in any trial or deposition recorded. Since Honey is part of the defense team, it’s best they don’t be seen together. The trial brings them together, but it also could separate them. When Mark is absent one day from the courthouse, Honey misses him. Then she receives a note dismissing him from anything that might jeopardize Stanley’s case. If Allan were to even know she has been talking with Mark during the trial, it could cause an upset. While Honey tries to keep her mind on the case, and Mark tries his best to stay at bay until the trial is over, only time will tell if the love that secretly blossoms between them will be able to stay sealed until the case is over.
Sweeter Than Honey is a book with sweet romance in the making. I could just picture the scene with Mark and Honey with the coffee and cream, not to mention the way her emotions take off once she gazes into his eyes. Honey is a workaholic, just like her lawyer friend, but once she gets Mark under her skin, it’s like what case. It reminded me of being in high school and falling in love with that certain someone, and you think, what homework. Mark is a character that has such an appealing persona to him. He seems like the good ole American boy next door. Judy Boettcher weaves a story that I could easily follow. She kept my attention until the last page with the mystery of Stanley’s case. She crafts a plot that keeps the audience guessing till the court case is over and the clues start unraveling. This is one of those feel good reads that really makes the reader feel good.
