Improbable Solution

Sally Carruthers is stuck in the small town of Whiterock, Oregon while she takes care of her ailing father. She sometimes wishes that he would he would just go ahead and die which makes her feel guilty so she hardly ever leaves the house but the isolation has taken a toll on her as does the increasing violence her father displays. Sally routinely reflects on the exciting life she had before moving back to Whiterock and is eager to get back to it but won’t leave her father to be taken care of by strangers.

Gus Loring discovered the town of Whiterock by accident when he got a new job with a dry cleaning service. He found himself making deliveries to Sally who he finds very attractive and needy as well which is the very last thing he wants. He really wants to forget his past but every time he’s around Sally he fights his feelings as well as his past.

The town of Whiterock also has some paranormal activities going on that seems to direct the town and the people.

The small town atmosphere in Improbable Solution by Judith B. Glad was charming, picturesque and typical of small town America. The characters of Sally and Gus interacted well together but I just had a hard time connecting with either one of them. I felt that even though Gus was running from his own demons, he still acted like a jerk to Sally on several occasions.

The paranormal aspect in this story added a layer of the unknown to the plot and I wish it had been explored a little further. 3 Angels
